I am extremely disappointed with this product. I wish I could return it but since I used it to find out it doesn't work, evidently I can't. An expensive mistake. I originally saw this product in a well known gardening supply catalog at a much steeper price. I searched the web and found a much better price at Home and Beyond. That was good. In both the catalog and on the Home and Beyond site, the product was advertised as being able to reduce piles of leaves to mulch. Just what I was looking for! Unfortunately, as I found out, it would take until next winter to do this. I also read a review at the Home and Beyond site which raved about it. In my opinion this is not a good machine for shredding leaves or any quantity of any type of garden waste. You can only put a handful of leaves in at a time and then you need to push them in with the pusher tool. The leaves must be very dry or the machine clogs. I also tried shredding dead perennials and had a clog in about 5 minutes. The top hopper is very small and has two smaller openings, one for leaves and another for perennial-type waste. I suppose These small openings are to prevent you from sticking your arm down the hopper and getting it shredded. There is also a "curtain" over the perennial hole in the hopper and the stick hole on the boddy of the machine. The curtain is so stiff the plant material breaks while you are trying to feed it in. These safety features in my mind render this product all but useless.
The manual mentioned that the machine creates suction while operating I did not find this to be the case, I had to use the pusher tool to feed anything into it.
Although the machine is of nice sturdy construction, I would not recommend it.
Works great when care is taken not to overload. I learned it will not plug up as long as you make sure that it expells mulch as branches are fed into it. If it doesn't, stop the machine, unplug the electrical cord and reach up into the shute to clear it. Its easier then undoing the three bolts for a major plug up.
I've used this to shred small branches, twigs, and yard waste (including leaves). The mulch is lovely and I get to feel virtuous by not bagging stuff for collection. Nice to chop up stuff for the composter, too. My only complaint is that it is a slow, noisy process--but maybe with practice feeding the hopper will get faster. It's currently my favorite "garden gadget."
Great for shredding garden refuse and leaves, also small branches from trees and shrubs.

This chipper is a good size that doesn't overwhelm the female user. It chopped up my pile of branches that collected in my yard from all of the stroms wonderfully. I put all of my chipped wood to good use by mixing it in my compost pile. It did jam once but that was because the branch I put in had a bad knot on it. It was easy to fix though - just unscrew three large handled screws, lift off the top half, brush off the piece, put top back on, screw down and you're good to go! The price is what made it even better!
The only reason I didn't get it all five stars is because of the instruction booklet. I had read other's comments about the instruction booklet and was well prepared to be confused (which I was) but I think if you just read through all of the instructions a couple times before you try to put it all together, it may make a difference. Over all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this chipper to anyone - I'm happy!

This product works very well for its size and does a good job when used as directed. It chips up branches, shreds leaves, but gets clogged by green pine needles. It is good for the home gardener who likes to "chip as they clip" rather than saving up a huge pile and then renting a heavy duty shredder. If you have a fireplace, any branches wider than the recommended size can become kindling for next winter.
