I bought this switch to replace my old Brand X switch. The two switches are nearly identical and may share the same OEM manufacturer. The Brand X came with a thin collar (on the inside of the switch) that connects to the house's ground wire. This Air Vent switch has no ground connection. My solution was to remove the collar from the Brand X and mount it on the Air Vent. You could do the same thing by winding a thin wire around the inside of this switch, and then connecting your wire to the house's ground. My Air Vent's plastic package (not my order's shipping carton) arrived opened, with the two mounting screws missing. So I used the almond-colored screws from the Brand X. You may have to buy two plate screws from a home warehouse. Easy installation instructions (join 3 pairs of wires, screw a connector on each pair, and screw the connected switch into the junction box) are on the back of the package and also on Air Vent's web site. The worst feature about the Brand X was that its knob would loosen and then spin 360 degrees. The Air Vent has a much better knob that cannot loosen or spin. Since my house has white outlets, I prefer the white Air Vent to the almond Brand X. I tried to buy a 2-speed whole-house-fan switch at a home warehouse, a professional electrician's supply depot, and many on-line stores, but no-one carries it, making Home & Beyond your preferred and only source.
